Mr Paul
ATANGA NJI, the Minister of Territorial Administration granted an audience to Prof
James MOUANGUE KOBILA, the Chairperson of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission
(CHRC) on Wednesday, 8 February 2023 from 10.30 to 11.30 am.
The main
purpose of the visit was to prepare for the deployment of the CHRC to ensure
that Human Rights (the right to political participation and related) are
respected during the 12 March 2023 Senatorial elections.
In that
regard, the CHRC Chairperson and MINAT discussed :
- the
observation of the senatorial elections and forthcoming elections by the CHRC
without prior accreditation, due to its official human rights observation
mandate and
-
facilitating the accreditation of the CHRC's partner civil society
organisations to observe the senatorial elections.
The CHRC
Chairperson further sought MINAT's agreement in principle for a CHRC
presentation on Human Rights issues of concern within the command
constituencies of the authorities concerned to be included in the agenda of the
bi-annual Governors' Conferences.
The two
personalities agreed on all the above-mentioned items.
